About Beginner Yoga Guide

My Journey From Complete Beginner to Your Yoga Guide

I'll never forget my first yoga class in 2016. I walked into that studio feeling like a complete fraud—the stiffest person in a room full of pretzel-like humans. I couldn't touch my toes, my balance was laughable, and don't even get me started on the breathing techniques. Everyone seemed to know exactly what they were doing while I struggled to tell my downward dog from my upward dog.

But here's the thing: I kept showing up. Not because I was naturally good at it, but because after each class, something shifted. My chronic back pain from years of desk work started easing. My anxiety quieted down. I slept better. For the first time in years, I felt present in my own body.

The problem? Every resource I found assumed I already knew the basics. Videos moved too fast. Books used Sanskrit terms without explanation. I felt lost and frustrated, convinced yoga just "wasn't for me."

That frustration became my motivation. I spent the next eight years diving deep into yoga for beginners—not as someone who was naturally flexible or athletic, but as someone who genuinely struggled and had to learn everything from scratch. I took beginner classes from over 30 different instructors, read countless books, watched hundreds of tutorials, and most importantly, I paid attention to what actually worked for people like me: complete beginners who felt intimidated and overwhelmed.

I created Beginner Yoga Guide because I wish this resource had existed when I started. I wanted to build something that speaks to the person who's nervous about their first class, unsure if they're "too stiff" or "too old" or "too anything" for yoga.

What I've Learned Along the Way

Over the past eight years, I've practiced with more than 30 yoga instructors across different styles—from gentle Hatha to flowing Vinyasa. I've tested over 150 yoga mats, props, and accessories to figure out what actually helps beginners versus what's just marketing hype.

I've spent thousands of hours researching beginner-friendly yoga poses, modifications, and progressions. I've learned which cues actually help beginners understand alignment, which common mistakes to watch for, and how to break down complex poses into manageable steps.

Most importantly, I've worked with dozens of fellow beginners, listening to their questions, concerns, and breakthrough moments. This hands-on experience taught me more than any book ever could about what new yogis actually need to hear.

My specialty is taking intimidating yoga concepts and making them accessible. Whether it's explaining proper breathing techniques, demonstrating modifications for tight hips, or helping someone prepare for their very first class, I focus on practical guidance that builds confidence.

Why Beginner Yoga Guide Exists

This website exists for one simple reason: every single person deserves to experience the life-changing benefits of yoga without feeling intimidated, confused, or left behind.

Yoga for beginners shouldn't require a decoder ring or a gymnastics background. It should be welcoming, clear, and genuinely helpful from day one.

I'm here to be the guide I desperately needed when I started—someone who remembers what it's like to feel awkward, stiff, and completely lost. Someone who can explain things in plain English and celebrate the small victories that matter most when you're just starting out.

My mission is to remove every barrier between you and your first "aha moment" on the mat. Whether you're recovering from an injury, managing stress, or simply curious about yoga, you belong here.
